🤧 Police Chief Day responds to ‘blue flu’ accusers

September 4, 2026 · — Giulia Fiaoni

Good morning, Portland! Have you heard about Salt & Straw's latest seasonal item? I was surprised to see it wasn't some funky new cheese or fish-flavored ice cream, but a collab with Taco Bell on a churro-flavored ice cream taco. It's available now at Taco Bell restaurants nationwide. And if you're a real Salt & Straw head, you can travel to Southern California, Dallas, Houston, or Las Vegas for their choco-waffle chiller — a blended frozen drink that's only available at certain locations.

Portland Metro Chamber Wants A Discount from the Mayor

Portland's business lobby is asking the city to waive permitting costs for annual waterfront events like the Rose Festival and Waterfront Blues Festival. Portland Metro Chamber CEO Andrew Hoan asked Mayor Keith Wilson in emails obtained by Willamette Week to pause hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees for at least two years to guarantee the events continue. Citing budget constraints, the mayor only offered a 50% permit waiver for next year's events. [Willamette Week]

Several of you were able to identify the location of this mural featuring Portland's iconic late drag queen Darcelle XV:

"Chevron station by Dante’s! Been getting gas there since the 80’s!" writes reader Shannon Page.

"On the side of the Chevron gas station on Burnside Street! Commemorating the late Portland icon Darcelle, who was once the world's oldest drag queen and is the namesake of Darcelle's Showplace in Old Town. RIP Darcelle," writes reader Leah S.

"The Downtown Portland Chevron (2230 W Burnside St, Portland, OR 97210). Mural of Darcelle XV, Portland drag queen certified as the oldest drag queen performer by Guinness World Records in 2016," writes reader August van N.

A shoutout to them and readers and Susie B., Danielle R., Robin M., Howie B., Belita, Nate Erwin, Lulu, and Heidi F., who identified the location.

This week is in a location across the river in Vancouver, Wash.:

A painted mural with purple and yellow flowers to the left, a blue bird with a top hat floating above its head, and thin green plants to the right with a blue and white background.
Do you know where this bird with a top hat floating above its head is? (Stephan Vertal / reader submission)
