❄️ Test your knowledge of snow in Portland
February 25, 2026 · — Rachel Monahan
Good morning! Portland City Hall’s latest effort to lend a hand to local mom-and-pop shops would raise the business license tax exemption from $50,000 in gross receipts to $75,000 for this tax year — and up to $100,000 for next year.
It’s expected to pass. It’ll cost the city an estimated $2.5 million a year once it’s fully implemented next year.

What's CITY Talking About
Gas Tax Referendum
On Monday, a bill to move the gas tax referendum to the May ballot passed the State Senate after days of delay. In the House, Republicans walked out to prevent a vote. [Oregon Capital Chronicle]
Investigating Federal Agents’ Use of Force
As part of a potential criminal investigation, state officials are asking a federal judge to let them use confidential documents and videos that were obtained during their case to block the deployment of National Guard troops. The federal government opposes the request, though Judge Karin J. Immergut has asked Oregon officials and the Trump administration to work out their differences on their own — or file further motions later this month. [Oregonian]

City Council Plans Fewer Meetings
City Council has reorganized after the first year under the new form of government. Specifically, they’ve reduced the number of committees from eight to five. The most notable change involves getting rid of a dedicated Climate Committee, which focused on issues that had previously received little attention. [City Cast Portland 🎧]
