😡 US citizen suffers concussion in immigration stop
February 6, 2026 · — Rachel Monahan
Good morning, Portland! An iconic Oregon waterfall is up for sale. The public has had access to Abiqua Falls.
But now it’ll go to the highest bidder.
Mount Angel Abbey, the current owner, looked for other options: They considered trading with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management or selling to the nonprofit Willamette River Preservation Trust. But those negotiations failed; “It felt like there was a lack of civic mindedness in their effort to suddenly list this property,” said trust president Travis Williams. State and local agencies also aren’t in a position to buy it.

What's CITY Talking About
US Citizen Suffers Concussion During Immigration Stop
Immigration agents pulled over a U.S. citizen in Salem last week — in an apparent instance of racial profiling. During the stop, the woman suffered a concussion, as well bruised ribs and a torn rotator cuff, according to the group Latinos Unidos Siempre. Oregon’s largest labor union, SEIU Local 503, has identified her as a member. [Oregonian]

Trump Administration Singles Out a Protester
Chandler Patey, 29, who lives near Portland’s U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement building and is a frequent participant in protests, has been identified in Trump Administration files as the possible “leader of Antifa leader.” But the federal documents also indicate: “This information has not been confirmed.” It’s an instance of the federal government keeping intelligence files on people who haven’t even been accused of a crime. Patey, who has allowed protesters to use his apartment for bathroom breaks, told the Oregonian he’s not a part of any official organization but does participate in protests to “show that we are not OK with” the Trump administration’s approach to immigration. $15M in Portland Housing Bureau Funds
For the second time in the last few months, the city has discovered millions of unspent funding under the Portland Housing Bureau’s purview. This time it’s at least $15 million; last time it was $20 million. City Council is contemplating this week how to spend the last tranche of funding — and whether to launch an investigation of the bureau's questionable accounting. [City Cast Portland 🎧]

Where Is It?

This door within a door is at 5042 SE Carlton St. in the Woodstock neighborhood. And it's not the only surprise at this location:
“They have a dog stick library and a beautiful garden at their house,” wrote reader Austin S. “My favorite part is the jeans they planted flowers in.”
A shoutout to Austin S. for writing in with the location. Other readers enjoyed seeing the spot:
“I have no clue where this is, but absolutely love it. Kudos to the artist.” wrote reader Grey J.
This week’s scavenger hunt comes from reader Pankaj P.:

The red bike sculptures that serve as bike racks are common enough. This setting in nature is a little more unusual. Do you know where it is?
Please click here to submit the location — and, for unofficial bonus points, anything you know about it.
If you’re new to the newsletter, there’s a scavenger hunt on Fridays. In next week’s newsletter, I’ll shout out the first 10 readers who respond correctly and reveal the answer.
📸 Want to submit a photo? Please email me a snapshot of somewhere in the Portland metro area, and we’ll consider it for an upcoming “Where Is It?” segment!
