State Needs $340M After Trump Cuts

To address Trump administration changes to Medicaid and food assistance, the state of Oregon has to come up with an estimated $340 million. The bulk of that new expenditure would go toward hiring workers to enforce and track the new work requirements for federal food assistance. [Oregonian]

2 Police Officers Shot

Two police officers were shot Monday night when they were called to a disturbance near the Lloyd Center — at Northeast 21st Avenue and Clackamas Street. The officers are expected to survive their injuries. The suspect was still at large as of Tuesday afternoon. [OPB]

The Aftermath of the City Council President Vote

On the midweek news roundup, last week’s vote for Portland City Council president turned contentious. In the aftermath, at least one city councilor issued an apology for his public comments. Councilor Dan Ryan emailed the Portland Mercury that he was sorry for blaming them for the way he responded to a story on an influential developer’s racist and offensive texts about City Council.
