🏠 Living close to cannabis shops may be a problem
December 2, 2025 · — Rachel Monahan
Good morning! Who has it best — Portland or Seattle? The podcast hosts of City Cast Portland and the newly launched City Cast Seattle duke it out — in a good-natured debate.

What's CITY Talking About
Fewer Oregonians Vaccinated
About a million Oregonians have received this year’s flu vaccine — 5% lower than last year. And 360,000 have received the latest COVID shot — 21% lower than last year. [OPB]

Cannabis Use Disorder Associated With Living Close
Washington state residents were more likely to be diagnosed with cannabis use disorder if they live within a 10-minute drive of a legal cannabis shop, according to a recent study by the Washington State Institute for Public Policy. The study is part of an ongoing look at the impact of legal cannabis. [KNKX via OPB]
Pipeline Patched
The pipeline that supplies 90% of Oregon’s transportation fuel is back in service. For nearly two weeks, BP’s Olympic Pipeline was shut off after a leak was discovered at a blueberry farm. So far 2,300 gallons of fuel have been recovered. [Seattle Times via Oregonian]
Less Frequent Bus Service
TriMet service cuts to five bus lines took effect on Sunday. The FX2-Division will run less frequently after 7 p.m. — arriving every 24 to 35 minutes. And 35, 52, 77, and 81 buses will all arrive only once an hour after 9 p.m. [KGW]

Today on City Cast Portland

Is Seattle Better Than Portland?
It's easy to compare Portland with our neighbor to the north. We both have ample access to nature, thriving food scenes, and plenty of rain. But in honor of the recent launch of City Cast Seattle, it's Portland vs. Seattle. Which city is actually better?
Generally speaking, and this is my last little jab at you, Seattle doesn’t really think about Portland.
🗞️ Before you go: The Oregonian newspaper is so old it’s older than the state of Oregon. It’s been around longer than any other paper that’s been continuously published along the West Coast. And it’s one of the longest-running businesses in the state. Thursday is the 175th anniversary of its first edition.
