🧑⚖️ Oregon wins — and Trump loses — in federal court
November 3, 2025 · — Rachel Monahan
Good morning, Portland! It’s a new week and a new month. We have some ideas today for what to do in Portland in November ⬇️

What's DC Talking About
Despite Court Order, Food Benefits Delayed
It could take a week or longer before people receive their November Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. That’s even after two federal judges ruled on Friday that the administration must provide SNAP benefits during the government shutdown. [Associated Press]

Federal Ruling Against Court Deployment to Portland
Four weeks ago, U.S. District Judge Karin J. Immergut granted a temporary restraining order barring President Trump from deploying any troops to Portland. Late Sunday, she extended the ban as she continues to weigh the case, with a final ruling expected by Friday. Sunday's 16-page preliminary injunction offers an indication of what she may ultimately decide: “This Court finds no credible evidence that during the approximately two months before the President’s federalization order, protests grew out of control,” Immergut wrote. A Call to Pause Overnight Shelter Openings
After recent data showed many of the beds at the city’s new overnight shelters are staying vacant, Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson argued it may be time to stop opening more. She says it’s time to “troubleshoot how to fill these vacant beds,” adding “there are signs that something isn’t working right.” Mayor Keith Wilson says more people have come to the shelters as the weather changes, and beds were 73% full last week. So this month I’m going to devote this space to something in our city I’m thankful for. Feel free to pipe in with your own suggestions.
