What's CITY Talking About?

Late-Hour Parking Meters Suspended

Mayor Keith Wilson has suspended downtown’s evening parking meter fees. Longer hours on the meter were part of a new effort to fund the financially strapped Portland Bureau of Transportation — even though PBOT was violating its own policies by collecting new fees where there was no evidence of a parking crunch. Wilson says he's taking action to support downtown businesses. [Mayor’s office]

Two Big Companies Leave the Oregon Psilocybin Business

Florida-based Kaya Holdings Inc. is selling its stake in Sacred Mushroom, an 11,000-square-foot service center in Old Town; the company is going into cryptocurrency. Also, Canada-based Silo Wellness had sought to build the world’s largest psilocybin retreat in southern Oregon, but now is planning to become a defense company. [Willamette Week]

Reservations About the Portland Deployment

In a striking letter, Adjutant General Alan Gronewold acknowledged that members of the Oregon National Guard may have reservations about the mission to Portland, but urged them to keep up their professionalism. [Oregonian]

  • Related: The deployment of 200 Oregon National Guard will cost at least $3.8 million, not including food, lodging, transportation, and logistical costs. The federal government is responsible for the tab. [Oregonian]
