🍴 New York Times’ surprising new favorite Portland restaurant

Good morning! The New York Times is out with a list of the country’s 50 best restaurants. And this year it includes just one from Portland. The pick is a bit of a surprise: The Paper Bridge, a Vietnamese eatery that often flies under the radar.

(The only other Oregon restaurant to make the list was Eugene’s Yardy Rum Bar, which serves West Indies cuisine.)

Declining Home Prices

In August, the median sale price for a Portland metro area home fell by 0.9% from a year ago. There are fewer buyers and homes are staying on the market longer. The median sale price in the area was $550,000 last month. [AP via Oregonian]

Higher Fee to Run for Portland Mayor and Council?

The city’s Elections Division is considering raising the filing fee for mayoral candidates by up to $1,655; the fee is currently $100. The increase would be a way to weed out “non-serious candidates,” and could come alongside similar increases for City Council candidates. [Oregonian]

2060 Deadline for State Buildings’ Seismic Upgrade

Gov. Tina Kotek has signed an executive order requiring all buildings owned or leased by the state get a seismic upgrade in the next 35 years — or be replaced. Most new buildings will also need to be designed to withstand an earthquake. It’s part of preparing the state for “the Big One” — a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake. [Oregon Capital Chronicle]
