🫐 Test your knowledge of Oregon berries
July 30, 2025 · — Rachel Monahan

Portland’s the perfect place to get into fishing. Nearby rivers, mountain lakes, and even the Pacific Ocean offer a chance to catch a wide variety of species all year round. Local fishing legend Keevin “Crappie Killa" Collier has all the tips for getting your first catch: where to go, what’s safe to eat, what gear to get, and even how to cook your fish 🐟

What's DC Talking About
Parents May Pay for Cell Phone Ban
Gov. Tina Kotek banned cell phones in schools by executive order. Now at least two Portland high schools are asking parents to foot the bill for Yondr pouches, which schools use to keep student phones locked up during the day. [Oregonian 🔒]
Fight Over Central Library Security
Security at the Central Library has become a point of contention between the city and the county. County Commissioner Meghan Moyer recently faulted the city homelessness policy for essentially turning libraries into day shelters, and Mayor Keith Wilson has responded that it’s the county’s responsibility to make libraries safe. Crude Graffiti Gets Action
Phallic images painted on two potholes got swift action from the Portland Bureau of Transportation. The location at Northeast 21st Avenue, near Northeast Multnomah Street, has been cleaned up — and the holes were filled in. But PBOT officials say they try to fix all potholes within 30 days, though removing paint adds an extra step to the work. [Oregonian]

How Well Do You Know Oregon Berries?

It’s completely irrefutable that Oregon has the best berries. I can point to our delicious Hood strawberries (and many other varieties), not to mention marionberries.
The quality of these summer fruits can be hard to prove with data points, but there are some cold hard facts on quantity. In honor of summer, here’s your chance to prove how well you know the Oregon berry:
