Trump Cuts Hit Youth Experiencing Homelessness

Local groups are scrambling for funding after the Trump administration eliminated the federal grants for outreach to youth experiencing homelessness. “They’re really undermining and destroying demonstrated programs that have helped thousands and thousands of youth get off the street,” said Denis Morrow, executive director of Portland-based Janus Youth Programs. Rise in Homelessness in Clark Co.

Homelessness is also on the rise across the Columbia River. Clark County, Wash., which includes the city of Vancouver, saw an 12% rise in people experiencing homelessness this year. The number rose even faster among senior citizens — by 21% this year. [OPB]
