What's DC Talking About

New Arena Talk

With the Trail Blazers up for sale, NBA commissioner Adam Silver told reporters he wants the team to stay in Portland, but also that they’ll “likely need a new arena.” [KGW]

Steady Increase in Unemployment

The state’s unemployment rate has risen a tenth of a percent each of the last six months, though at 4.9% (as of the end of June), unemployment is still low by historical standards. [OPB]

Bigger Parks Levy

Portland voters will have a chance to weigh whether to increase the parks levy by 75% — which will increase the tax for the median home to $310 per year — up from $177. The council unanimously approved a November ballot measure, with the support of the Portland Metro Chamber, the region’s largest business advocacy group. [OPB]

Last week’s scavenger hunt was for Suzanne Lee’s sculpture called “Shared Vision” — at the Southeast Holgate Boulevard MAX Station along I-205. The intricate design includes five lanterns: “A celebration of community diversity, it also serves as a welcoming beacon at night,” according to TriMet.

A shoutout to reader Maureen, who identified the location.

This week’s scavenger hunt comes from executive producer John Notarianni:

Please click here to send me the location — and anything you know about it.

If you’re new to the newsletter, there’s a scavenger hunt (almost) every Friday. Please send me the location if you know it — and for unofficial bonus points, anything you know about it. In next week’s newsletter, I’ll shout out the first 10 readers who respond correctly (and reveal the answer).

📸 Want to submit a photo? Please email me a snapshot of somewhere in the Portland metro area, and we’ll consider it for an upcoming “Where Is It?” segment!
