What's CITY Talking About?
Mayor Wilson Asks for No Federal Help

County Cuts Won’t Hit DA’s Office
Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez successfully waged a public campaign to fight off proposed budget cuts to his office as the county grappled with a significant shortfall. County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson initially proposed a 5% cut, which her fellow commissioners amended. [Willamette Week]
A Proposed 74% Cut to Eviction and Homeless Prevention
Eviction in Oregon hit an all-time high in January, but the proposed state budget, which advanced out of a subcommittee last week, will slash eviction and homelessness prevention. At the same, the Legislature is planning to increase state investment in shelters. [Willamette Week]
Legislators’ Tears Are the New Norm
Even recently, it was unusual to hear Oregon legislators’ personal stories of addiction, abuse, and abortion. Now, they’re part of the culture of the Legislature, as is crying — a sharp contrast to the recent past, when only tears of joy were the social norm. [Oregonian 🔒]
