Mayor Proposes Cuts and Layoffs

Mayor Keith Wilson announced his first $8.5 billion city budget proposal, which aims to address a $130 million shortfall with deep cuts to parks and other city departments. Despite the reductions, the plan would preserve youth programs and prioritize $63 million for homeless shelters and services. City Council will hear the proposal on Wednesday and take a final vote in June. [OPB]

Shemia Fagan Agrees to Pay Ethics Fine

The former Oregon Secretary of State will shell out $1,600 for ethics violations tied to a cannabis consulting side job and state reimbursements for personal travel upgrades. Fagan, who resigned amidst the scandal, maintains her innocence but says she accepted the settlement to avoid further legal expenses. [Oregonian]

OHSU Pulls Plug on Legacy Health Merger

Oregon Health & Science University confirmed it is giving up on its 20-month effort to combine two of Portland’s largest medical systems, telling employees it was a mutual decision.
