⚾️ What a Portland MLB stadium would look like

Growing up Mexican, I thought all snacks — even sweets — were supposed to be spicy. I’ve been slowly expanding my appreciation for pastries and baked goods, just in time for our list of Portland’s best bakeries. More on that below. ⬇️

If You Build It, Who Will Pay?

The Portland Diamond Project showed off new stadium renderings and announced it would begin construction in 2027 if the city lands a Major League Baseball expansion team. The proposed Zidell Yards stadium includes a retractable roof to allow for expanded use year-round. No word yet on who’s going to pay for it. [Oregonian]

Oregon Braces for Trump Tariffs

Economists are sounding the alarm on how new tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China could disrupt the state’s economy — particularly the semiconductor industry, which employs more than 30,000 Oregonians. Computers and electronics accounted for nearly half of the state’s $34 billion in exports in 2024. [OPB]

Public Access Restored at Oswego Lake

A Clackamas County Circuit Court judge has ordered the City of Lake Oswego to remove barriers and signs blocking public access to the lake from Millennium Plaza Park within 120 days. The court order also prohibits the city from imposing future access restrictions. [KOIN]

It's gonna be really hard to whittle down this list into the things that they're willing to cut — unless some wild new revenue source shows up, it's gonna hurt.

Incoming Budget Cuts

Portland is facing a massive budget deficit, and City Administrator Michael Jordan — no, not that one — has a long list of recommendations to address it. Among them are eliminating over 200 jobs and cutting funds to services like road maintenance and community centers, but what should get cut and how much will it save? [City Cast Portland 🎧]
