Why Oregon’s gas tax may rise
February 27, 2025 · — Rachel Monahan

It feels like spring out! Whether you’re taking a class to help map out your garden or admiring the city’s iconic cherry blossoms, March in Portland is full of fun — and new beginnings!
Today there’s more on what to do this month 🔽

What's CITY Talking About?
More Highway Funding Needed From Cars
Under Oregon’s constitution, the costs of highway maintenance have to be divided fairly between trucks and passenger vehicles. But that’s now out of whack, according to a new analysis prepared for the Legislature. The gas tax for passenger vehicles and light trucks may need to go up 9 cents a gallon. [Willamette Week]
Golf Course To Become Natural Area
The regional government Metro is buying 533 acres in Clackamas County, including the Eagle Creek Golf Course, which has been on the market for four years. A 2019 bond approved by voters to protect clean water and wildlife habitat is funding the $6.4 million purchase. [Oregonian]
Pickles May Fight Pixar
The Portland Pickles are weighing legal action against Pixar and its parent company Disney for possible trademark violation. The new series “Win or Lose” tells the story of a middle-school baseball team — also called the Pickles with some similar logos. Portland’s mascot Dillon T. Pickle is “absolutely devastated,” according to the team’s sometimes cheeky social media account. [Oregonian]
