🚓 A City Hall fight over police accountability
February 25, 2025 · — Rachel Monahan
Good morning! One quintessentially Portland-weird event is making its comeback this summer 🚲 After a year’s hiatus, the World Naked Bike Ride is now scheduled for July 26.

What's CITY Talking About?

1 New Tree for Every Portlander
The city is weighing a plan to expand the number of trees in Portland, by planting 660,000 in areas with less shade, including the outer east side. But also the city is looking to take over planting and maintenance of street trees — currently the responsibility of homeowners. [Oregonian]
Fight Over Police Accountability
City Councilor Sameer Kanal is pushing for greater police accountability. He’s proposed relatively small changes to the Community Police Oversight Board that nonetheless have the police union up in arms. [Willamette Week]
OSU Researchers Fired
At least 19 federal agricultural researchers working with Oregon State University — in Corvallis, Newport, Hood River, Pendleton, and Burns — have been fired as part of the federal cuts. They mentored graduate students and focused on Oregon-relevant subjects such as blueberry breeding, oyster production, and rangeland ecology. [OPB]
It’s almost like the malice and pettiness of wanting to take down the Oregonian left him exposed.
Reckoning for Robert Pamplin Jr.
Once one of Oregon’s wealthiest individuals, Robert Pamplin Jr. recently settled a federal investigation into his raiding of his employees’ pension fund. Oregon Journalism Project reporter Nigel Jaquiss explains the downfalls of Pamplin’s finances and reputation. [City Cast Portland 🎧]
