🍕 Why a Portland pizza shop is closing
February 12, 2025 · — Rachel Monahan
Good morning, Portland! It’s so cold and wintry it’s hard to imagine preparing for summer. But today, I have some tips for getting ready for peak hiking season — and why it’s the right time to do so ⬇️

What's CITY Talking About?
Smaller Portland High Schools
To save up to $70 million in costs, members of Portland Public Schools’ board are suggesting that upcoming projects to rehab three high schools be smaller than previously planned. That would mean Cleveland, Jefferson, and Wells high schools would be roughly the same size as previous projects at Lincoln and Franklin. [Oregonian]
Flu Cases Rise in Oregon
Oregon is one of 43 states seeing a steep increase in flu cases. In the week ending Feb. 1, 92 people were hospitalized in Oregon because of flu — up 50% from the previous week. [KOIN]
Original Sizzle Pie Location Closing
The original location of Sizzle Pie, on East Burnside, is closing on Feb. 23 after workers last month voted to unionize. Sustainable Restaurant Group, a part of SoHi Brands (formerly Sortis Holdings), attributes the closure to trouble reaching an agreement with the landlord, rather than the union. [Oregonian]
It was the global first swimsuit and launched this like global revolution of people wearing swimsuits.
Oregon’s Notable Exports
Oregon has made its mark with a wide range of products and brands — from household names you know to surprising inventions you might not realize came from our area. They include not just Nike and microbrews but run the gamut from Dutch Bros to Jacobsen Salt. [City Cast Portland 🎧]
