What's CITY Talking About?
Trump's Impact on NW Power Costs
If they actually happen next month, Pres. Trump’s tariffs (and the Canadian response) could have a substantial impact on heat and electricity costs in the Pacific Northwest. “Customers should be worried about it,” Bob Jenks, executive director of the ratepayer advocacy group Oregon Citizens’ Utility Board, told the Oregonian. Oregon officials say it’s unclear what the actual effect will be. [Oregonian]
- Key facts: Roughly two thirds of Oregon’s natural gas is piped in from Canada.
- More than two thirds of Oregon households use natural gas for heat.
- And about half the imported gas goes toward generating electricity. [Oregonian]
Tentative Agreement for First Providence Health Care Strikers
Providence has reached a tentative agreement with doctors and nurses at Providence Women’s Clinic. It’s the first sign of progress in the historic healthcare strike that started last month. There’s no deal yet at the eight hospitals. [OPB]
Suburban Voters Worry About Cost of Living
For the first time in years, suburban voters told pollsters that homelessness wasn’t their top concern. Instead, it’s the cost of living. That’s driven by a jump in suburban Republicans’ concerns about inflation. [Willamette Week]
