🏥 The reasons for Oregon’s largest healthcare strike ever
January 13, 2025 · — Rachel Monahan

What's CITY Talking About?
The Largest Health-Care Strike in Oregon History
About 5,000 nurses, doctors, and other health professionals walked off the job on Friday as part of a labor union strike at all eight Providence hospitals in Oregon. [Oregonian 🔒]
- Related: What’s at issue in the strike? Providence says it’s offered nurses a 20% raise over three years. But the two sides are still negotiating over issues like nurse-to-patient ratios, decreasing out-of-pocket health care expenses, and increases in paid time off. [OPB]
Permanent Sobering and Deflection Center?
Multnomah County is considering buying a building at Southeast Grand Avenue near Division Street to serve as a permanent location for a sobering and deflection center. If staff find the building suitable, the board of county commissioners would ultimately decide whether to proceed with the purchase. [Oregonian 🔒]
