❄️ Prepare for a snowy mountain weekend
December 12, 2024 · — Rachel Monahan
Good morning, My favorite part of this job is helping make sense of what’s happening in our city and how it affects you, me, and our neighbors — from the latest changes in local elections to the best spots to visit in different Portland neighborhoods.
I’m here to make the issues that shape this place understandable — and to celebrate our city.

What's CITY Talking About?
No More Free Vaccines From Multnomah County?
With federal cuts to its immunization program (owing to the expiration of pandemic-era funding) and a budget crunch from lower property tax revenues, Multnomah County officials initially said at a statewide meeting that they expect to stop giving out free vaccines next year, though they have since denied that will go into effect. Snowy Weekend in the Mountains
Expect a good ski weekend up at Mount Hood. But also there will likely be snow on the roads, particularly on Saturday. [KOIN]
Vehicle Emissions Testing Continues
Unlike Washington, Oregon still requires emissions testing for Portland-area vehicles, despite newer cars emitting less pollution. Still, 21,000 vehicles last year failed the test, which is necessary to renew vehicle registration. [KGW]
The Secrets of Lents Neighborhood
Lents is home to incredible parks, great food, and everyone’s favorite local baseball team, The Portland Pickles. OPB "All Things Considered" host and self-described Lents evangelist Crystal Ligori offers some inside scoops. [City Cast Portland 🎧]
