What's CITY Talking About?
Nike Stocks Decline Over Trump Tariff Pledge
President-elect Donald Trump imposed tariffs during his first term and proposed new 60% tariffs on the campaign trail. In response to his victory, investors dumped Nike stock on Wednesday, though a Trump administration could also result in corporate tax breaks. [Oregonian 🔒]
Losing Mayoral Candidates Abandon Homeless Services Plan
After losing in the mayor’s race, Portland City Commissioners Mingus Mapps and Rene Gonzalez canceled their push to end the city’s involvement with the Joint Office of Homeless Services, which would have cost the city millions. They’ll leave the decision to the new City Council. [Portland Mercury]
It was a Rubio-Gonzalez race. Nobody was going to come between them except for parking tickets and Wikipedia.
What Happened in Portland's Election
In the city’s first election with ranked-choice voting, the political outsider won the mayor's race. Businessman Keith Wilson benefited from campaign scandals of his opponents. He won’t be the only newcomer to City Hall: 12 new City Councilors will join him in January. [City Cast Portland 🎧]

Where Is It?

Local artists, residents experiencing homelessness, and the nonprofit group Street Roots collaborated on the advocacy mural “Housekeys, Not Handcuffs,” from the Portland Street Art Alliance. It’s on Southeast Belmont Avenue near 34th Avenue in the Sunnyside neighborhood — one building over from the Leroy Memorial Mural, which I featured a while back in this space.
A shoutout to reader Grey J for identifying the location.
For this week’s scavenger hunt, here’s a block-long street mural:
