The 600 Fuel Tanks Near the Willamette
Over the past decade, scientists and activists have been sounding the alarm about a looming environmental disaster right in the heart of Portland: 90% of Oregon’s liquid fuel is stored on wildly unstable land, right by the Willamette River. What can we do now to avoid an environmental catastrophe that will happen when (not if) an earthquake hits? [City Cast Portland 🎧]
🏀 WNBA to PDX
Portland has landed a WNBA team that will be part of the league’s expansion to 15 teams in 2026. The new owners, who also purchased the Portland Thorns earlier this year, paid a record $125 million for the franchise. [Oregonian 🔒]
City Works To Buy Distressed Apartments
The city of Portland has set aside $15 million to subsidize affordable housing developers buying available apartment buildings at reduced prices. The current sale prices are lower than what it costs to construct a new building in the city. [Willamette Week]
