Plan for Alternative to Jail

After a long process, Multnomah County has released the requirements for avoiding jail in a drug possession case. Beginning Sept. 1, those arrested must not be facing other charges and have to engage with any recommended services within 30 days. If a person doesn’t meet that deadline and is arrested again in the following 30 days, they won’t be able to go to the deflection center. But the county did not set a limit on the number of these deflections. [Willamette Week]

Former president Donald Trump is proposing a 10% tariff on all imports — and an upwards of 60% tariff on Chinese goods.
