Hi, friends! It’s City Cast editor (and aspiring home chef) Adrian González filling in for today. I’m not that great in the kitchen, but as a man, I’ve of course accumulated many culinary gadgets and am trying to get better at it — specifically Mexican and Asian cuisine. Gloriously, there’s a new spot in Southeast Portland where you can get ingredients for both! More on that below.

👋 Governor’s Team Loses Another Member

Juliana Wallace has resigned after less than a year as Gov. Tina Kotek’s behavioral health initiative director. Wallace expressed appreciation for her short tenure but said she is returning to her previous employer, Central City Concern, to work directly with the community. [Willamette Week]

🧑‍💻 University Sells Student Housing to Fund Online Enrollment

Portland’s Warner Pacific University has sold its Division Street Apartments used for student housing in an effort to combat declining enrollment and raise money for its virtual classes. The private university will lease back the apartments for 10 years and will have the option to repurchase the property. [Oregonian 🔒]

🛣️ Proposed I-5 Expansion Is Not All Roses

The Oregon Department of Transportation is awaiting a $750 million grant to expand I-5 through Rose Quarter, but environmental advocates are pushing back, claiming that ODOT has not been forthcoming about the environmental impacts of the project. A decision is expected by September. [Portland Mercury]
