What's CITY Talking About?
Congressional Democratic Candidate Top Fundraiser
In Oregon’s most competitive congressional race, Democratic nominee Janelle Bynum raised more money than her opponent for the last two months: $1.3 million. But the incumbent Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer had a head start and still has more money on hand: $2.4 million. [Oregon Capital Chronicle]
I-84 Graffiti Returns but Arrest Made
Graffiti has returned to the stretch of I-84 that more than 100 workers cleaned up last weekend. But the response has been prompt. Police have already made an arrest, and the Oregon Department of Transportation plans to continue monitoring the area closely and paint over new graffiti. [Oregonian]

Where Is It?

Last week’s scavenger hunt was for a beach in Lake Oswego that is available to the public: George Rogers Park on the Willamette River. (The fate of the eponymous exclusive lake is still tied up in court.)
The former site of Oregon Iron Company is the suburban city’s first community park. For more than 10,000 years before that, it was used by Native American tribes.
“I kayak here with my best friend whenever we can find time. It’s one of my very favorite day off activities. I love this spot for convenience, but I am always looking for new places that aren’t too crowded,” writes reader Chelsea Munden.
“I love to run along the trail that wraps around it and have picnics on the lawn above with my family,” writes reader Courtney Crain.
“I was there yesterday but both (very small) parking lots were full, so I left — lovely place early in the morn or late evening when you can get a parking space!” wrote reader Jeanne.
A shoutout to the other readers who knew the location: Michael Gerrits, Sherry, Christine Stroud, Anne Mansfield, Kate Teague, Brian Finlayson, JosB., and Doug.
Also: This week, quite a few readers provided incorrect identifications that are nonetheless a very good answer to a hot sunny weekend: the Sandy River, maybe Oxbow Park; Glenn Otto Park in Troutdale; or:
“Sand Beach or the clothing optional beach at the east end of Rooster Rock? Fun fact about the Columbia off of Sand Beach….we went there last week (with eyes toward the ground! LOL) and we walked almost halfway to the other side and the water never got deeper than to our hips!! It was amazing!”
The death last week of chef Naomi Pomeroy is all the more shocking and tragic, because for so many of us, summer joy is tied up in fun on the river.
Now here’s something different for next week’s hunt:

Have you been here? Do you know where it is?
Before I go: The Humane Society of Southwest Washington has a cat named Kamala up for adoption. She’s a pretty cat with a name that’s popular in some circles these days.
