Fire Map Update To Show Similar Risks
A firestorm of criticism pushed the state into withdrawing a map detailing fire risks across Oregon. Its release last year came at the same time as insurers raised rates or decided not to renew coverage. But a new map to be released this month will show similar problems. One change: Some grass and ranch lands will not be designated as high risk, depending on their use and irrigation. [Oregon Capital Chronicle]
Unions at Odds Over Grocery Store Merger
The Washington and Oregon labor unions representing grocery workers are on opposite sides of the proposed Kroger and Albertsons merger, which will include the sale of 186 stores in the two states. The Washington union opposes the merger, because they’re skeptical that the buyer will keep all the stores open and jobs safe, despite assurances. The Oregon union says they’re glad the jobs and stores will stay. KOIN]
