Body Cameras Arrive in Last Major U.S. City
Portland is last among major U.S. cities to have police officers wear body cameras. But now after years of delays, the city began rolling out its use in the Central District, which includes downtown. [KATU]
No Immediate Bail for Fentanyl Dealers
Under a 2022 bail reform law, some fentanyl dealers were quickly released after arrest, only to go immediately back to drug dealing. Now Multnomah County Circuit Court has tightened the rules, and all defendants in fentanyl dealing cases will be held until a judge reviews the case — and sets bail if they are to be released. Why Carmen Rubio Wants To Be Mayor
This is the fourth in a series of mayoral candidate interviews. Portland City Commissioner Carmen Rubio has been in charge of housing, sustainability, and permitting. And she has a long history of working in city politics as well as leading a local nonprofit. She’s talking about why she thinks she’s a good fit for the job.

Oregon has the dubious distinction of being home to the world’s ugliest dog. The 8-year-old Pekingese named Wild Thang won the official title this past weekend at a contest held each year in California to promote adopting pets from shelters and rescues.
