🚦 Alleged gunfire vandal had racked up traffic tickets
June 13, 2024 · — Rachel Monahan
Good morning, Portland! Check out what to do on Juneteenth this year ⬇️

What's CITY Talking About?
Planned Parenthood ‘Infighting’
An internal fight over the future of Oregon’s Planned Parenthood groups is garnering high-profile attention. The state’s two Planned Parenthood affiliates want to close down the organization’s political advocacy arm, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon. Supporters say the political organization is key, because it can quickly respond to anti-abortion ballot measures, for example. “The infighting is ridiculous,” said Jennifer Williamson, a former Democratic state lawmaker and former interim leader of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon. Alleged Gunfire Vandal Racked Up Traffic Tickets
A man has been arrested for committing vandalism by gunfire, including shooting out a traffic enforcement camera at Southeast Washington Street and 103rd Avenue. It may not be a coincidence that 28-year-old Chase Grijalva, the alleged shooter, had received four speeding tickets since March, three of them at the intersection. [KGW]
Traffic Over the Columbia Down Since 2019
There are 15,000 fewer cars and trucks traveling between Portland and Vancouver since 2019. And the number is barely growing. Working from home is the main driver in the 5% decline in trips. That’s notable because Oregon and Washington plan to invest billions in a new I-5 bridge over the Columbia. [Oregonian 🔒]
Mayoral Candidate Keith Wilson
Keith Wilson is the president and CEO of a regional transportation company that includes an all-electric truck fleet. He’s also the founder of Shelter Portland, a nonprofit that addresses unsheltered homelessness in our city. Wilson explains why he wants to be Portland's mayor. [City Cast Portland 🎧]

Today on City Cast
First and foremost, we can’t have people on the street. It’s inhumane.
Why Keith Wilson Wants To Be Mayor
This is the first in a series: Mayoral candidate Keith Wilson is the president and CEO of a regional transportation company that includes an all-electric truck fleet. He’s also the founder of Shelter Portland, a nonprofit that addresses unsheltered homelessness in our city. Wilson explains why he’s a good fit for the job.

I’ve given short shrift in the newsletter to notable and original Portland signage — until now. Here’s one I’ve walked past many times without apparently noticing it. Just wow.
How about you? What do you see on signs near you?
