Pacific Foods’ manufacturing plant in Tualatin will close within the next two years, with 330 workers losing their jobs. Campbell’s bought the local company in 2017. [Oregonian]

Oregon Middle Class Harder to Obtain

Over the last decade, Oregon saw the country’s biggest increase in income needed to be considered middle class, according to a new study from GOBankingrates. From 2012 to 2022, Oregonian households needed a 53% increase to stay middle class. Other western states also saw large increases. [KOIN]

The Behind-the-Scenes Victories

Labor unions and local governments won big in last week’s primaries. Labor-backed candidates did well in their primaries, while local governments got most of their tax measures approved. [Willamette Week]

Grappling With Overdoses

Portland Rescue Mission on West Burnside has installed red warning lights that blink after anyone has been locked in the bathroom for 10 minutes. That’s because, in the middle of a fentanyl crisis, locked bathrooms have become dangerous places for people overdosing on drugs. So far, the warning lights have helped staff save four people in the last year. [KGW]
