What's CITY Talking About?
1st Ever Powell’s Warehouse Sale
Powell’s has a strange problem for the biggest bookstore around. It’s got too many books, which piled up during the pandemic when stores were closed. And so the prominent Portland bookseller is holding its first ever warehouse sale, where you’ll find real bargains — $3 for hardcovers, $2 for paperbacks, and $1 for mass-market titles. Portland Thorns Add Investors
Columbia Sportswear CEO Tim Boyle has become a Portland Thorns investor. The Southern California-based Bhathal family paid $63 million for the team in January and announced this week that they’d brought in additional investors, including Phoenix Suns co-owner Sam Garvin and former NBA player Josh Childress, among others. Beaver Cuts Power
A beaver in the Columbia River Slough got its 15 minutes of fame when the little lumberjack toppled a tree onto a transmission line Wednesday afternoon. About 33,000 households in Northeast Portland lost power, some for as long as an hour and half, before Pacific Power could fix the problem. [KGW]
