Ethics Complaint Filed Against DA Challenger

Multnomah County district attorney candidate Nathan Vasquez accused the sitting DA, Mike Schmidt, of failing to keep an alleged serial killer in jail. “Once free, he murdered four women,” Vasquez states in the official voters’ guide. Vasquez, who is also a senior deputy district attorney, confirmed to OPB that he was speaking about Jesse Lee Calhoun, who has not yet been charged with any murders. “Typically, prosecutors take great pains to not comment publicly before charges are filed and a case goes to trial,” OPB reports. Defense attorneys have filed a bar complaint against Vasquez. [OPB]

High-Profile Testament to Nike’s Toxic Work Culture

A former sister-in-law to Nike’s executive chairman and former CEO Mark Parker has come forward to detail her experience of Nike’s toxic work culture for women — including being forcibly kissed by a Nike manager in his hotel room when she appeared for a business meeting. Pam Parker is not part of the ongoing lawsuit against Nike, and isn’t seeking anything, but says she came forward to support the case filed by current and former Nike women employees. Her sworn statement is the “first with a direct tie to the company’s corner office and boardroom,” the Oregonian reports. [Oregonian 🔒]

Here’s what they love the most about our city: "Peninsula Park, Portland has more blue sky than Seattle, I love my neighborhood (Piedmont), the flowers in the spring, close to hiking, the local culture is such that I don’t have to get dressed up for anything ever again, easy to get around on public transit, to name a few."
