🗳️ State Senators Barred From Seeking Reelection Are Running for Office

State Sen. Brian Boquist, who is banned from seeking reelection to his seat after participating in the Republican-led walkouts last year, has filed to run for state treasurer. Boquist isn’t alone though in his quest to remain in state politics — Sen. Dennis Linthicum, who is also barred from reelection for unexcused absences, has filed to run for secretary of state. [OPB]

📚 Plans to Make Up Lost Class Time Move Forward

After academic disruptions like the teachers strike and January’s winter storms, Portland school board members voted Tuesday on new amendments to their plan to make up for lost instructional time. Resolutions include asking the Oregon Department of Education to waive 14 hours of mandatory instructional time due to emergency school closures, as well as making SAT day a full day, among other things. 👟 Footwear and Apparel Manufacturing Could be Coming to Old Town

Oregon lawmakers have set aside $2 million to bring manufacturing, housing, and office and retail space to Old Town Chinatown. The Made in Old Town development project aims to build a 30,000-square-foot apparel and footwear manufacturing facility that would help entrepreneurs jumpstart eco-friendly companies. The allocation will still need approval from the governor. [Oregonian]

🧑‍💼 Detention Center with History of Inmate Deaths Keeps Getting Perfect Score

The Multnomah County Detention Center has had 10 county custody deaths since 2022, and reports from WW show that gangs were running units on some floors of the building in 2019. Still, the center continues to get top grades during inspections. It turns out that, due to a move back in 2015, members of the Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association are responsible for inspections, meaning county sheriffs and deputies are policing each other.
