What's CITY Talking About?
Albina Vision Trust Pushes for PPS Sale
Albina Vision Trust, the nonprofit working to develop the historically Black neighborhood, wants Portland Public Schools to sell its headquarters. The nonprofit is looking to build 1,000 units of housing on the 10-acre property. The school board already awarded Albina Vision Trust the right of first refusal on any sale of the property. Drug Possession to Be a Crime Again
Democrats are saying they want to make drug possession a crime again — specifically, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail. At next month’s legislative session, by contrast, Republicans will be pushing for a full repeal of Measure 110, which also provides funding for drug treatment. [Oregon Capital Chronicle]

Portland Gas Tax Up for Renewal
City Council unanimously agreed to ask voters to renew the city’s 10-cent-a-gallon gas tax in May. After City Council slashed plans to increase parking fees last year, the Portland Bureau of Transportation currently has a $32 million budget shortfall. That makes the tax on gasoline all the more critical, some city officials and advocates say. [Portland Mercury]

Where to Eat in The Jade District
It’s time to check out Southeast 82nd Avenue for some other reason than dangerous intersections, the lack of tree canopy, or spotty public transportation. Eater Portland editor Brooke Jackson-Glidden is sharing some of her favorite places to eat in the Jade District and the surrounding area, which benefits from being one of Portland’s most diverse neighborhoods.
Anyone who has spent time there knows it’s one of the best areas in Portland to eat.
One top-notch thing about City Cast is we believe in accountability, including tracking the demographics of our podcast guests. The City Cast Portland team did an amazing job in representing some of the diversity of our city, including having a good number of nonbinary guests. Next year the team will strive to do even better.
