This iconic semi truck’s new home 🚚
December 5, 2023
Good morning, Portland! Executive producer John Notarianni here, filling in for Rachel today. Keep an eye on your porch as the holiday shopping season ramps up: Security company SafeWise says Portland is among the top 10 worst for package theft in the country.

What's CITY Talking About?
Dan Ryan Scraps Mayoral Run
It’s been an open secret that City Commissioner Dan Ryan has been considering a run for mayor, but yesterday he officially took his name out of the running. Willamette Week reported that Ryan says he will “keep fighting for the city I love.” Commissioner Mingus Mapps has already declared his intent to run for the top job, and Commissioner Carmen Rubio is rumored to be exploring a run, too. Lawsuit Over Albina Neighborhood Demolition Moves Forward
A judge ruled that a lawsuit over the demolition of hundreds of homes in Portland’s Albina neighborhood to make way for Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center can proceed. Defendants argue that the demolition, which took place over 50 years ago, was a violation of the families’ civil rights. The city, Prosper Portland, and the hospital had hoped to dismiss the suit. Alaska Buys Hawaii
Two of the West’s most iconic airlines are merging: Alaska Air Group announced a $1.9 billion deal to buy rival Hawaiian Airlines. The combined company would keep both companies’ brands and maintain Honolulu as a major hub, although the deal needs several approvals to become a reality: from both companies’ boards, Hawaiian Holdings’ shareholders, and federal regulators. Where Is It?

This one stumped a lot of you: For years, this Freightliner was poking out of the side of Sloan’s Tavern on N Russell. The bar closed its doors at the end of 2022, but the truck has a new life on the back patio of the newly revamped Holman’s Bar and Grill on NE 28th!
Congratulations to Mike Middendorff, cdavid cottrill, Sage Monroe, and Larry Crane for identifying its new home!

This week’s photo is a staircase on a foggy fall day. Does it look familiar? Email me!
