Oregon has too much weed, again!

December 4, 2023

Good morning! Portland is officially the No. 2 city in the country for sweet treats 🍓 How did we get that distinction? 🍰 Apparently, we have the second most bakeries per person (after Miami).

What's CITY Talking About?

Portland Woman Survived Fall From Mt. Hood

A Portland woman lived to tell her story of falling hundreds of feet from Mt. Hood during the Thanksgiving weekend. A fit and experienced mountain climber, she was traveling with other climbers, but conditions were icy. If she’d fallen another 15 yards, she almost certainly would have died. But she didn't break any bones and is already back at work, contemplating her second chance at life. [Oregonian]

Too Much Cannabis, Again

Oregon has grown too much cannabis — again. The industry was already in financial trouble, but a bountiful harvest this October spells worse news. That’s because an oversupply of product will lower prices and cause hardship for businesses already in distress. More than a third of Oregon cannabis businesses are having trouble paying their taxes and debts, an industry survey found. [Willamette Week]

Portland Police Possibly Violate State Law

A Portland Police Bureau presentation to City Council last week displayed four mugshots, potentially violating the state’s mugshot law. In Oregon, mugshots can be made public only in very limited circumstances, including when officers need the public’s help to nab someone violent or when the person in question has been convicted of a crime. Only one of the four people in the mugshots displayed to the public had been convicted, and at least one had charges dropped. The bureau’s Internal Affairs division has launched an investigation.
