What's CITY Talking About?
Portland City Hall Renovations
Portland City Council has settled on a plan to prepare for the new form of government: Renovations will begin in February to help make way for a larger City Council in 2025. City Council had previously objected but will move out of their offices in July to make construction possible. At the same time, city commissioners will remain in charge of bureaus until the end of their term — over objections from the mayor. [Oregonian 🔒]
First All-Electric Truck
Portland’s first all-electric garbage truck will soon be picking up trash in East Portland neighborhoods. The truck cost $675,000, compared with $350,000 for the diesel truck that’s standard right now. It will hold two days’ worth of charge. [OPB]
Police Allegedly Ram Car in Case of Mistaken Identity
Portland police rammed the back of a silver Ford Fusion that had been driving the speed limit, according to a legal notice filed with the city. There was apparently a case of mistaken identity, the notice says. The two women in the car had been on a day trip to the Columbia Gorge and now intend to sue the city over the incident. Police were looking for a man, not a woman, who was evading police at high speeds. [Willamette Week]
