Why are COVID boosters so hard to find?
October 12, 2023
Good morning, Portland! You can figure out exactly how much of a credit to expect on your 2023 Oregon taxes, thanks to a calculator tool from the Oregonian. The state’s kicker refund is a record 44% of your personal income taxes last year 💰

What's CITY Talking About?
$20 More to Watch Blazers Games
Comcast is charging $20 more per month for the privilege of watching the Portland Trail Blazers. The company’s basic cable package will no longer carry Root Sports, which is where you can catch the Blazers, Kraken, and Mariners games; instead, fans have to buy their “Ultimate” package. Isn’t it a weird season to do that? [KGW]

Need for Diapers
Portland nonprofits are sounding the alarm about a shortage of free diapers. The group Mother & Child gives out diapers but repeatedly ran out during the summer. Another nonprofit, SnowCap Community Charities, saw a 20% increase in demand during the month of August compared with the previous year. Part of the problem is that other nonprofits stopped offering free diapers — a product that is not covered under the federal SNAP benefits and can cost families $1,200 a year. [Willamette Week]
Alaska’s New Portland Connection
Alaska Airlines is ditching Seattle-based Starbucks for its inflight brew. Starting Dec. 1, you’ll get a cup of a custom blend by Portland-based Stumptown onboard Alaska planes. [Oregonian]
