Health care workers walked off the job in eight states, including Oregon and Washington, as they demanded better pay from Kaiser Permanente. This is the largest strike in healthcare industry history, with 75,000 nurses, pharmacy techs, and other workers involved — including 4,000 in Oregon and SW Washington. [CNN]
Local Republicans Vote No on D.C. Ouster

Why ‘Louie Louie’ Is the Ultimate Portland Anthem
Back in 1963, five Portland teenagers recorded one of the most important songs in all of rock and roll history. The Kingsmen’s version of Richard Berry’s “Louie Louie” is the most-covered rock song of all time, but it was considered so wild in its time that the FBI investigated the band. Dick Peterson, the last remaining original member of the Kingsmen, and Luke Strahota, one of the organizers of the Louie Louie marathon, share some often overlooked Portland music history with us.
It sounds like Portland: It's muddy. It's dirty. It's messy. Drives people crazy, but other people love it.
