💉 COVID-19 Cases Are Rising Again
The Oregon Health Authority says that although positivity rates were at an all-time low in the spring, they’re increasing during the summer. The number of severe illnesses from COVID-19 is still low, but OHA is encouraging residents to opt for the new vaccine, along with flu and RSV immunization. [KGW]
♻️ This Portland Glass Recycling Plant Keeps Getting in Trouble
Owens-Brockway Glass Container Inc., the largest glass bottle recycler in the state, received its tenth penalty since 2004 for violating emissions standards — this one to the tune of $213,600 — for exceeding pollution standards several times in 2022 and 2023. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality says the company is taking steps to minimize infractions. [Oregonian]
🏥 Behavioral Health Care Workers Vote to Unionize
An overwhelming majority of the 62 workers at Unity Center for Behavioral Health, a 24-hour psychiatric emergency room in the Lloyd District, voted to unionize and become part of the Oregon Nurse Association.
