What's CITY Talking About?

New City Council Salaries Set at $133K

A Portland commission has set the salaries for Portland’s new 12-member city council, which will be elected next year for the first time. City councilors will make $133,000 — not as high as initially considered, but still a boost from the current $127,000. The mayor’s salary will get a raise as well to $175,000 from $152,000. (Portland's Independent Salary Commission makes the final decision so that council and the mayor don’t weigh in on their own salaries.) [Oregonian]

$95K for Protester

The city approved a $95,000 settlement for a protester injured in August 2020. Logan Colwell underwent knee surgery after suffering an injury when Portland police officer Nicholas Bianchini pushed him. [KOIN]

Possible Mayoral Hopefuls

Former City Hall adviser Marshall Runkel and former Multnomah County sheriff Mike Reese are considering a run for mayor. City Commissioner Mingus Mapps is already in, while at least two of his colleagues on council, Mayor Ted Wheeler and Commissioner Carmen Rubio, are also considering entering. [Willamette Week]
