🦟 How to deal with the world’s deadliest species
June 26, 2023
Hello, it’s Monday! I can’t help feeling like Oregon is trolling Idaho in making the potato our state vegetable 🥔 Shouldn’t our state veggie be kale? 🥬

What's CITY Talking About?
Suing Big Oil Over 2021 Heat Dome
Multnomah County is the latest local or state government to sue oil and gas companies over climate change. The $52 billion dollar lawsuit is one of the first to focus on a discrete weather event — specifically, the deadly heat dome of 2021 when temperatures hit a record 116 degrees. [New York Times]
Child Tax Credit
The U.S. child poverty rate fell by half during the pandemic when the federal government sent families a $300-a-child monthly check. Congress failed to renew that tax credit, but the Oregon Legislature has now approved a more modest credit, targeted for low-income households — up to $ 1,000 a year for families making less than $30,000 a year. [Oregon Capital Chronicle]
Oregon’s TikTok Ban
The Legislature has approved a ban on state employees using TikTok on any state-owned computers or phones. Oregon will join 27 other states that have already enacted such a ban. [OPB]

Part of the fun of going to a new city is experiencing it all for the first time and learning about the place you’re visiting. But what if you brought that same tourist energy to rediscover Portland? Today on City Cast Portland, host Claudia Meza is joined by Eden Dawn, author of “The Portland Book of Dates” and co-host of the “We Can’t Print This” podcast, and our very own lead producer, John Notarianni.
So you go to Dots, you get some fries, you get a drink, and then you go to the midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show, and it’s just stupid fun.
And we’re on to the rest of the week!
