Legislature Poised to Approve $1 Billion for I-5 Bridge

The State Legislature is poised to approve $1 billion in bonds to help fund the expansion and replacement of the I-5 bridge over the Columbia River. Washington State has already approved its portion of the funds for the $5.75 billion project. [Oregonian]

Portland Street Response Set Up to Fail

In the latest outrageous example of how Portland Street Response is being set up to fail: the program’s workers are unable to place involuntary holds on people who are in distress (many Multnomah County employees and contractors have that privilege). Portland Street Response was set up as an alternative to sending law enforcement, but the city has already cut Portland Street Response funding, among other institutional obstacles to the program’s success. Oregon’s Most Beautiful Campground

Smith Rock’s Bivy Campground is officially the state’s most beautiful campground, according to the travel website Trips to Discover. It’s $8 a night for tents (no RVs allowed), and it’s open March 15 to November 15. [Oregonian]
