Biketown's expanding – here's how to use it

June 5, 2023

What's CITY Talking About?

3 Draft Maps for Portland City Council

Maps released last week provide three options for the new Portland City Council districts. All three drafts have the entire West Side in one district and the entire area east of I-205 in a second district. All of North and a chunk of Northeast end up in a third. Differences between the maps include what East Side neighborhoods will be grouped into a district with West Portland: Sellwood-Moreland, the Central Eastside, or Buckman and Kerns. [KGW]

Notable Passing of Christina Luu

Ha Luu, better known to Portlanders as Christina, survived Communist Vietnam, the imprisonment of her husband, and near starvation before moving to Portland in the early 1990s. She was the matriarch and chef behind beloved Vietnamese soup restaurants Ha VL and Rose VL. She died on May 29 at the age of 75. [Oregonian]

Republican Walkout Threatens Basic Funding

Republican state senators’ five-week-long walkout from the state Senate is now the longest in Oregon history. And Democratic leaders have given up on negotiations. It’s not clear how the Legislature will pass a budget, which means, for example, that two-thirds of the state’s school funding would disappear after Sept. 15. [Willamette Week]

There was just gay stuff happening everywhere all the time. Just like every weekend you could be going dancing or swimming or just be in someone’s basement.
