Here’s a bite out of the latest from Portland’s culinary scene.

🛒 A Taste of Asia and Beyond for Southeast Portland

Asian supermarket Hồng Phát officially opened their new location inside the old Walmart in the Eastport Plaza. They’re stocked with a diverse selection of groceries, including Asian, American, Latino, and Middle Eastern foods. The building will also feature wholesale foodservice, clothing, Asian travel services, and a beauty salon. [Oregonian 🔒]

🍖 The Secret to Great Korean BBQ

The New York Times recently published a story about what it takes to make truly great Korean BBQ and, unsurprisingly to Portlanders, it included a shout out to Rose City’s own Peter Cho, chef and owner at Jeju. Turns out the secret ingredient is not the gadgets or expensive meats. It’s all about how you prepare it. [The New York Times]

🍕 Bend it Like Ken’s Pizza

Ken’s Artisan Pizza, recently ranked one of the best pizzerias in the country, is opening a location in Bend inside an old nightclub. Demand for its pies has increased dramatically, so the owners decided to expand to central Oregon to avoid competing with its existing Portland location. [Oregonian]

🍸 Rethink the Drink Ad

The Oregon Health Authority canceled its summer anti-alcohol TV ads following backlash from the alcohol industry over a previous campaign depicting a father struggling to explain to their kid why they drink. OHA said it will focus on online ads and reevaluate whether to run the new ads later this year. [Willamette Week]
