The Best Portland Pizza Spots

Portland does indeed have some of the best pizza in the world, according to a local pizza expert, but which spots deserve the crown?

On the City Cast Portland podcast last week, Blaine Bartholomew shared his top 10 pizza spots. I’ve pulled some of those names for you. You can listen to all of Bartholomew’s recommendations, starting at the 4-minute mark. (I recommend the whole show if you’re into pizza enough to read this far. I’ve left off his most gluttonous picks, so listen to get those.)

Lovely’s Fifty Fifty

Best for: vegetarian pizzas, and the vegetable and cheese combos. “What Sarah Minnick does with creating menus based on what’s in season that week at the farmers market — I mean, it's just insane the care that goes into that,” Bartholomew said. (Also mentioned for vegetable and cheese combos: Gracie’s, Dove Vivi, and Please Louise.)

Apizza Scholls

Best for: East Coast-style. “You can’t go wrong there,” according to Bartholomew. “I love the Paulie Gee over there, and that’s an ode to a famous New York pizzeria. And I like the Tartufo and Tartufo2” — the last two are white pies. (My personal favorite: the Sausage and Mama.)

Scottie’s Pizza Parlor

Best for: sourdough crust. “They've got that Defino, that grandma pizza, that I absolutely love.”

Boxcar Pizza

Best for: vegan pizza. It’s Detroit-style. “[Owner] Odie [O'Connor] is a bit of a magician; he makes non-cheeses taste like cheese.”So a question: If a Portland pizza were gonna be your last meal, where would you eat?
