The name might be new, but the food options in the Jade District have always been aplenty. That’s to be expected from one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Portland. Here are some of our favorites.

The Best Dim Sum

The strip mall on 82nd Avenue and Harrison Street is home to outstanding restaurants, including Excellent Cuisine. “To me it is the best dim sum in the area. It's just spectacularly good [food] in the old Wong's King space,” says Eater Portland editor Brooke Jackson-Glidden.

A bonus if you’re in the area: Master Kong. It’s well known for its wonton soup, but Brooke recommends the jianbing, a crepe-like wrap with wonton crackers, pickled radishes, and eggs inside.

Cantonese BBQ

Fans of Chinese cuisine will recognize the sight of ducks and pork hanging by a window. It’s a process that makes for succulent meat, and that’s exactly what you get at Fortune BBQ Noodle House. Go for the roast duck and be sure to order the homemade plum sauce.

Anyone who has spent time [in the Jade District] knows that it's one of the best areas in Portland to eat, I think because it's so culturally rich. Brooke Jackson-Glidden, Eater Portland Editor

Fresh Halal Food

Portlander and City Cast Director of Digital Strategy Bryan M. Vance recommends Stopby Bakery & Deli. Judging by the photos alone, I would eat everything on their menu.

Vietnamese Soup

We can’t talk about food in the Jade District and not mention Hà VL, a spot that’s attracted national attention (including a James Beard Award nomination last week!) for its cuisine, like their delicious turmeric soup. It’s run by a multi-generational family, the matriarch of which sadly passed away last year.
