Your Guide to August 2025 in Portland

00:00:00

If you’re looking for ways to have a fun chill time this coming month, we have some tips for you:

🎬 Outdoor Movies

Grab a film and a picnic at a local park — or get in your car for an old-school drive-in theater.

Free Movies in Portland Parks

It’s a summer tradition — free movies all around town:

Portland Monthly has more picks.

99W Drive-in in Newberg

The classic drive-in has new releases — as well as some reruns. This weekend’s movies are “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “Lilo & Stitch.” If you’ve never been, you get the sound via FM radio in your car. Tip: It’s first-come, first-serve with the box office opening two hours before a screening. Weekend shows tend to sell out.

⚾ Baseball Season

No, Major League Baseball hasn’t yet come to town — a recruiting effort is still in the works — but you’ve still got plenty of options for a local ballgame:

City Cast Portland at the Portland Pickles

Join us for the Aug. 7 Pickles game. We’ll be there for Keep Portland Weird night — City Cast is sponsoring the event. And City Cast Portland podcast host Claudia Meza will throw out the first pitch. (We have invited some of our members to join us in a box, but if you haven’t secured one of those spots, there are still tickets available to the game.) See you there!

If you’re not going to join us for the Pickles, there’s also our region’s Minor League Baseball team. They're a farm team for the Arizona Diamondbacks, so you always have a chance of catching a future baseball great.

🧊 Hacks for Keeping Cool

If you’re looking for a cheap outing with plenty air-conditioning, here are some options:

Free Thursdays at the Portland Art Museum

There’s no charge for admission from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the first Thursday (Aug. 7) — and every other month too. Enjoy some art while you’re enjoying the cool air.

Portland’s Mall of Local Businesses

Since bankruptcy, the Lloyd Center mall has turned into a haven for small businesses. (Rents are low.) But the AC is still blasting.

There’s ice skating if you want to imagine it’s winter. There are also comics, arcade games, and a Lego store (where you can build your own action figure).
