Portland Crows Quiz

Legacy Hospital has issued a warning about the crows in their parking lot, advising staff to avoid the area or at least not to make eye contact with any birds they run into — seriously!

Apparently, it’s the time of year when mama or papa crows can get quite aggressive in protecting their young as they start leaving the nest and learning to fly.

Occasioned by this startling bit of news, here’s a quiz on quiz on crows. The first question links to a longer quiz.

1. True or false? American crows can recognize individual humans.

🐦‍⬛ Speaking of crows. Recently, we polled all you readers (as well as our podcast listeners and followers on social media) to pick a City Cast Portland bumper sticker. And no surprise, the crow theme won! I’ll keep you posted on when they’re available.

What Portland's Talking About

Bend Doctor Home After Hantavirus Outbreak

A Bend doctor, who went on the cruise with a hantavirus outbreak, helped provide medical care when the ship’s doctor became ill. Now, after three weeks in quarantine in a federal hospital in Nebraska, Stephen Kornfeld is staying at his Bend home – with a local security officer standing guard for another three weeks. Kornfeld initially tested positive for the disease, but subsequent testing showed it to be a false positive. [Oregonian]

Central Catholic Accuses Grant HS of Violent Threats and Racist Slur

In April, Central Catholic High School students staged a walkout after a member of their baseball team used a racist slur. But at a May 27 postseason baseball game, Grant High School fans were accused of taunting the team and coaches, including with references to the Ku Klux Klan. [Oregonian]

  • It gets worse: A complaint filed with the Oregon School Activities Association also says Grant fans threatened sexual violence against Central Catholic players’ girlfriends and sisters, and in one instance, a spectator called a Central Catholic player the n-word. A Central Catholic player was also hit by something thrown into the dugout. [KOIN]
